5 Surfaces That Need Material-Specific Cleaning
“Low pressure” describes only one part of an exterior-cleaning method. Products, dwell time, rinsing, access, material, coatings, joints, repairs, drainage, and visible condition also determine whether a proposed method is compatible. These five surface categories require a property-specific review rather than a universal recommendation.
1. Wood

How the five compare
Each of the five categories above is reviewed the same way - material, coating, condition, then method - but they do not land in the same place.
Wood and asphalt shingles are the two where excessive pressure does the most obvious harm, and both are normally proposed for low-pressure application under 100 PSI. Vinyl siding and painted surfaces sit in the same band but for a different reason: the risk there is the coating and the seals at openings rather than the substrate. Ceramic and tiled surfaces are the least predictable of the five, because glaze, grout, and sealant can each behave differently on the same elevation.
What the solution does that pressure cannot
On every one of these surfaces, organic growth is treated with a diluted sodium hypochlorite and biodegradable surfactant solution rather than with water velocity. The surfactant holds the solution in contact with the material; the dilution is set by the documented condition. Where the manufacturer of a material publishes cleaning instructions, those instructions control the approach.
This is also why a cleaning quote is not an inspection. Treating visible growth on a surface does not establish the condition of what is under it, and the written scope says so.
